MINISTER YUSUF TEKİN EVALUATES THE EDUCATION WORLD FORUM IN LONDON

20 May 2025 16:32

Yusuf Tekin stated that the event in London was one of the most widely attended education forums in the world and noted that the forum discussed the use of new technologies in education, as well as the planned steps to be taken and actions to be avoided moving forward.

Minister Tekin stated, "Worldwide, everyone is currently transitioning from simply imparting knowledge to embracing an educational philosophy aimed at transforming knowledge into skills," and explained that starting from the 2024-2025 academic year, Türkiye has transitioned to a skills-based education system.

Minister Tekin stated that examples of new technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, were discussed at the forum. He also noted that during the session in which he spoke on "What Strategies and Changes Help Develop a Culture of Innovation in Education?", other ministers shared examples from their respective countries.

Tekin emphasized that in his speech, he explained the current status of technology use in education in Türkiye and highlighted the necessary steps to be taken regarding the use of artificial intelligence in the upcoming period.

Minister Tekin continued his speech as follows: "After explaining these points in my speech, I also drew attention to the following: such meetings have increasingly become gatherings where the primary purpose seems to be forgotten. We discuss highly technical and technological issues, but we must not forget this: if human rights violations, wars, conflicts, and threats to peace exist in the world today, it is because of the children and youth raised through the education system. Therefore, if we are to build world peace in the new era, and if we are to raise a generation that will build 'peace at home and peace in the world,' as Atatürk said, the way to achieve this is through the education and training system."

Minister Tekin emphasized that this important issue should not be overlooked and explained that he also addressed the related curriculum reforms and paradigm shifts in education in his speech.

Yusuf Tekin stated, "I underlined that we must fulfill our responsibilities to build good people, a peaceful and harmonious society, and a world living in peace."

Explaining that he also highlighted developments around the world, Tekin said, "In this context, I drew attention to genocides resulting from this process worldwide, particularly the genocide committed by Israel in Palestine. I spoke about the risk of waking up to a new conflict every day. Just last week, we went to bed and woke up with concerns about whether the conflict between India and Pakistan might lead us to a new world war. Such issues are happening all around the world."

Tekin emphasized that peace and human rights should not be overlooked while building new paradigms.

Minister Tekin visited the TRT World London office after the program, where he met and engaged in conversation with the staff.
